    1. First sentence: Norman the slug thought snails were great. "Wow!" said Norman. "Look at them! They're amazing! But unfortunately, the snails didn't think Norman was great. "Norman, you silly slug!" they cried. "You've spoiled our fun. This only works if you've got a shell." Norman felt left out. Sadly, he skulked off into the moonlight.Premise/plot: Norman, the "hero" of the book, doesn't have a shell. At least not yet. This picture book shows him "finding" a very silly shell to wear when playin [...]

    2. This is a story about a slug that wants to be the like his snail friends, he feels left out so goes to find himself a shell of his own. After searching he eventually finds a ‘shell’ which is a doughnut tied to him. He then joins in with the other snails, but when a bird flies past he spots Normans shell and wants it. The bird flies away with Norman and the only thing he can do is create slime to get away. He then falls from the sky and decides he likes flying and wants wings.I like this book [...]

    3. Silliness spews as an adorable snail searches for his place in life.Norman is a slug, but he wishes he was a snail. The search for a perfect shell brings him across the most interesting possibilities, and the results. . .well, things don't quite turn out the way anyone thought they would. The cover on this one is an eye-catcher and lures kids (and parents) attention right away, not only thanks to the glittery foil, but a doughnut as a shell is simply fantastic. The story itself begins with the re [...]

    4. Norman is slug, but he wants to be a snail. Not realizing the impossibility of becoming a member of a different species, he simply makes himself a shell by tying a donut to his back. Viola! Norman is now a snail. He has a great time being a snail until his donut attracts the attention of a hungry bird who carries him off. But, being extremely resourceful, Norman slimes his way free and falls back to earth. But he enjoyed flying so much that he decides he now wants wings instead of a shell.Intere [...]

    5. A slug who wishes that the was a snail with a really cool shell. This was a fun book to read. I love donuts so this was the first thing that attracted me to the book. The story was in between wordy and not so much. I found myself laughing as I was reading. This guy was an inventive slug who thought that he could do anything. There could be a teaching moment here. I think that this could be done for a story time, for a class or for your children. Maybe have a bedtime donut or a craft decorating a [...]

    6. From a child's perspective this is a great book. The story line is simple but funny and kids can follow along. My 4 year old especially liked it and could relate the illustrations to the story being read. Loved that the author incorporated underwear!!!! Creativity that appeals to children is important.

    7. This story is about a slug named Norman who wants to be just like his snail friends. He feels left out from the snails, so he goes and tries to find a shell so that he can be just like them. Eventually Norman finds a doughnut for a shell and ties it to his back. The shell looks very colourful and Norman starts to feel a part of the snails. Then one day a bird flies past and wants the doughnut, so the bird flies off with the doughnut and Norman hanging on. Norman creates lots of slime to escape f [...]

    8. Zenobia and Ivy both love this book. It's full of bright colours, has a silly story, and is very cheerful. And though I read it to them with a wincing expression all the way through (because I really don't like slugs), I can still enjoy the very funny attempts Norman has to tie terribly unsuitable round things to his back in order to have a shell so he can join the snails in their pyramids. What's nice about this book is that there's no racism in it. The snails get annoyed with Norman at the begi [...]

    9. Sue hendra has become a favourite it my household her stories are always fun and my son is always on the look out for new books!! This is personally my favourite so far of hers, the story is funny and warming it's basically about a slug who wishes he could be a snail and have a shell so he goes in search of one! It's colourful and illustrated beautifully I definitely recommend this

    10. I love this author, we adored Barry the Fish with Fingers, and this one is even better. Norman is a funny little slug determined to have a shell like his snail friends. Teaches children to use their imagination, and also that the grass is lot always greener on the other side :-)

    11. Sue Hendra's Norman is a slug that just wants to fit in with his friends the snails. He hunts for the perfect shell. An amusing story for children with lovely artwork.Scarlett (aged 5) gave it 5 stars.Poppy (aged 4) gave it 5 stars.

    12. This book is funny. Lottie laughed and laughed at this book. Poor Norman the slug with no shell. Lottie's favourite part is when Norman got taken by a bird because of his delicious new shell. Brilliant read.
