    1. I got The Mule Tamer III: Marta's Quest through First Reads. Thanks to the author for having a giveaway. Now, I haven't read the first two books in the trilogy so my impressions are based solely on this one. It is a completely standalone book. The story flows smoothly revealing just enough bits and pieces from previous books to make it clear and easy to the reader. Having said that I definitely am going to read the first two as I really enjoyed Marta's Quest. Normally I look for strong female le [...]

    2. I just had the pleasure of finishing, The Mule Tamer III: Marta's Quest, the third and final installment in The Mule Tamer Trilogy by John C. Horst and I was not disappointed. In the first two books we are introduced to Arvel Walsh and Chica, a ranger and a feisty but loving Mexican daredevil. They face many battles and trials but through it all discover their love for each other and the wild west and join together to form a family. Enter Rebecca and Marta. Rebecca is Chica and Arvel's only biol [...]

    3. This is the third part in the Mule Tamer Trilogy.I am not sure this story should truly be labelled a western.Perhaps a better designation would be historical mystery or suspense. It is set in 1911 and tells the story of the two Walsh girls as they return to the Del Toro ranch in Mexico.Rebecca is the daughter of Arvel and Chica Walsh.Marta is the little bandit girl that they adopted. The two girls first met when Rebecca was kidnapped by Marta's bandit father. After the events in the second book, t [...]

    4. The third installment in the Mule Tamer series, and what a gem. This book is centered around the character Marta, and wow is she a dynamic one. While reading about her adventures and escapades, I truly felt emotionally connected to her and wished that she was my sister, although Rebecca is just as lovely! The one thing I will say, that kept me from giving this book five stars, is that I was hoping for more adventures and less romance. As always, Mr. Horst does a fantastic job of placing his read [...]

    5. Marta's Quest, The Mule Tamer III by John Horst is the end of a 3 part series. This tale is as good as the first 2 books. It starts with Marta and Rebecca finishing school and getting ready to embark on a tour to Paris, France. The mining company sends 2 reprsentatives to see Marta about selling her land for $100,000. The one rep thinks she'll be excited by the offer. She shows him comtempt. Tells him what school, he, as a lawyer went to with all the mistakes. She sends him packing. The other re [...]

    6. The western story that began with The Mule Tamer continues. In this one, Marta is the feisty adopted daughter of Arvel and Chica. She was the daughter of a bandido but was saved by Chica when the camp was raided. Marta's land in Mexico is found to contain a rich deposit of oil and the girls fight to keep the oil company from getting control of Marta's land. They call on Zapata and his army for help in battling the Federales. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. The books are well writt [...]

    7. THE PEOPLE FIGHT BACKLiving was very hard and dying came quickly. On both sides of the border between Mexico and the United States kids matured early, to many things to hurt, maimed or even kill you. Malnutrition or the environment many succumbed. In Mexico there was a caste system, peons who in America could be compared to tenent farming and there were the native Indians who were murdered almost to extinction. This life that we read about is very hard and almost unbelievable, but we all know it's [...]

    8. AGAIN John has wowed me!There was one thing tho I hated about this book That was starting the last chapter! This ment that the ride was over for this series! I've had the honor of being allowed to read all three books. They were wonderful, he is a great writer, I experienced  humor, action, excitment, feelings, even love and every thing in between with these books. I've watched (or read) the daughter grow and the charaters become stronger.I got very attached to the charaters and hated to see t [...]

    9. I thoroughly enjoyed this series of books and think Mr. Horst has done a remarkable job with research. The first two were riveting. Marta's Quest was very good, but I just felt it started slow. But given the age and upbringing of the two young women, I can't expect them to start out as wild as Chica. It still gets really good and stays that way thru most of the book. I will definitely watch for other books by this author. Especially if its a western. I think he has brought westerns back and with [...]

    10. I have nothing but good to say for this book. John Horst is a great writer and it has been fun to see him grow in his artistic ability for writing. I have been reading his books as he has been putting them out and it is fun to get to know the characters in his Mule Tamer series. I look forward to reading Maria's Trail (prequel to the Mule Tamer trilogy). 5 stars for John Horst and this is one reader who is looking forward to reading books from this author as long as he is writing them. Hats off [...]

    11. This was my favorite of the three. The story was so well crafted and anchored down with historical events. I am so sorry to see this story end, but they all have to, and this one went out on the best note possible. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next, John.

    12. I was really disappointed in this book. Its language is language written for an adolescent, in fact the story is so simple it is for a per-adolescent, except the book has a lot of sex scenes in it so I guess it is meant for an adult. I don't recommend it !

    13. I loved it.Good story line. Great characters. I really love this series. I want to read Maria's story. What I read captured my attention.

    14. Another in a fun easy-read series. A dash of history, a dash of adventure, a bit of romance and a lot of western rolled into a storyteller's novel.

    15. Book three is about Maria's children, it takes place in mexico also. They have to protect their selves and their ranch from oil barons and scum of the earth.
