    1. Alex Hobbs is a man down on his luck. Summarily kicked out of the house by unloving parents at an early age, things aren't getting any better for him now. He's just lost his job at the video store, his girlfriend has dumped him, and a thoughtless neighbor's cooking turkey exploded and burned down his apartment. To say he's had a bad stretch of luck is an understatement. He turns to an employment agency to find workANY work. The strange man at the agency gives what seems to Alex as the best oppor [...]

    2. This book was too much fun. It's difficult to classify, which had me worried at first, as well as a few typos which put word nerds like me in danger of heart attack, but once I got past that, I fell in love with the characters and plot. A really fun read.

    3. You just can't seem to get the staff these days… Alex Hobbs is one of the most uncontested residents of Contented Hills. He's lost his job, an accident with his neighbour's oven burned down Alex's apartment; he's living in his car until that too catches fire and all he has left is a cardboard box of his meagre possessions. He needs a job but doesn't hold out much hope when he goes to the labour exchange but is surprised when he is offered a job as a laboratory assistant to the reclusive Serena [...]

    4. Alex is just a regular guy, but things have been looking pretty down for him lately. Losing his job, apartment, and car all within a few weeks, he keeps a positive out look through it all. Heading to the unemployment office as a last resort to get his life in order he gets the job opportunity of a life time, or so he thinks. Dealing with giant spiders, vaccine giving snakes, etch a sketch talking brains, a crazy inventor, and a moody hunchback aptly named Moody wasn't in the job description. This [...]

    5. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! When I put it on my Kindle, I'd forgotten what it was and what it was about. I started reading and soon was scratching my head going what in the weird hell is going on here?! It was like a Time Burton animated movie (along the lines of Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie) in a book. I could not stop laughing at all the sly little jokes and nods to the scifi/Fantasy/adventure genres. I loved all of the characters, even Snotwaddle (how great a name is THAT?! [...]

    6. I'm obviously biased, but I'd still read it even if I hadn't written it. Really. Well, maybe if there were more pictures and stuff

    7. What a wonderful read!!!!Couldn't put it down. The characters were great and the story was unlike anything I have ever read.I will have Holand Peterson on my to read list from now on!

    8. Review 6******I was given a copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review. This has got to be the quirkiest sci-fi/fantasy adventure I have read in a long time, if ever! I absolutely LOVED it!Alex Hobbs is a fantastic character! He is one of the good guys. I found him to be extremely levelheaded, even when the situations he faces would be enough to leave me in a mess! Although, I think he was only holding on to his sanity by a thread at one point! Unfortunately, he has found hims [...]

    9. Lovecraft Meets Mel BrooksA lonely sad sack becomes the newest assistant to a mad woman scientist and learns to embrace life. Of course, he has to brave insane lab experiments, monster spiders, a psychotic hunchback, the appearance of transdimensional monsters from the Elder World, zombies, a quiet English village populated entirely by horrifying, (and yet elegantly civilized), creatures, and some threatening black goop with a bad attitude. In his first few days; then it gets weird. The book star [...]

    10. Amateurish writing, with many grammatical errors and the author annoyingly used bold font whenever he wanted to emphasize something, when a simple exclamation point would be more appropriate. This fantasy story was cute enough to read through to the end, if you can get past the beginning, where the writing is particularly bad. The characters were OK. The best written part of the book is the author's bio. I'm certainly not going to look for the sequels.

    11. I was looking for something fun, and found it: a completely improbable plot in a fairly odd world, with quite an eclectic cast. The characters made me laugh, the oddball events taken for granted added smiles. A good first book.

    12. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are interesting and unlike any I've ever encountered before. The story pulls you in wanting to see what happens next.

    13. This book was a hell of a lot of fun. It was silly and funny. I found myself grinning like a fool many times. I love finding new authors and Mr. Peterson is now on my watch list.
