    1. It's your basic story of an aunt who unexpectedly gets custody of her 6yr old niece, and then loses her to an heretofore unknown relative of her niece, an Amish aunt! The story was very superficial, predictable and not very 'romantic' for a romance novel, and aside from taking place at Christmas time, not very holiday-ish. This book is pretty much a waste of time.

    2. A Simple Christmas Wish is a great read for the Holidays! When Rachel's brother and sister-in-law die in a plane crash, Rachel assumes she will be taking care of her young niece, Holly. Only her brother's will states otherwise Rachel has no choice but to bring Holly to an Amish farm, where the aunt she has never met before will care for her. Convinced Holly belongs in her care, Rachel tries her best to bring her home for Christmas. The story the author crafted is very touching. It's a tale of love [...]

    3. When will I learn not to read Amish fiction? I picked it up due to the Christmas theme not due to the Amish theme. I just couldn't get into. Sorry!

    5. This author has a gift of writing Christmas stories that leave you a warm feeling in your heart and bring a big smile to your face. Melody's Christmas books are a treat to read each year. I'm so thankful for this review copy of a book that grabbed my heart and attention starting with its beautiful cover. This adventures starts out in Chicago and then whisks readers to Amish Country in Ohio. Seven year old Holly will capture your heart along with her Aunt Rachel. This is the hardest adventure eith [...]

    6. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Rachel Milligan’s life is about to get very interesting. Spending Christmas with an Amish family with her seven-year-old niece was not what Rachel expected her Christmas to be like. The Amish community was a beautiful place to be, but Rachel wasn’t exactly welcome in her niece’s aunt Lydia’s home. But as usual with a Melody Carlson story, this wonderful author weaves together a story that will warm your heart during the Christmas holiday.I really loved this heart [...]

    7. A Great Christmas Read!Do we believe in life changing situations that are out of our control? In this story that is just what happened. Life was going pretty good for Rachel Milligan when a terrible tragedy struck. Heart broken and left with a niece to care for Rachel set to work trying to create a good life for her young niece. Just when she thought everything was under control another life altering situation blind sighted her. How did she not know of this secret life of her sister-in-law? Why [...]

    8. I want to start out by saying, I love Melody's Christmas books, I eagerly await them each year. But this year's book, just wasn't up the level of her other books. I have thought and thought about why, and I think for me it lays in the fact, I felt rushed reading it. Not because there was a deadline to finish it, but because the story was rushed. The characters and the story line was more suited for a full length novel, than a novella. That being said, I loved little Holly and Aunt Rachel. Benjam [...]

    9. Beautiful story. A story of family ties and secrets. Love being the most important factor as the story unfolds. Would like to see more stories involving these characters. A sweet story for those who are pinched on time.

    10. This is the 2nd book of Melody Carlson's I've read and I'm making the exact same comment. There isn't enough character development. The story seems rushed. It was a good story but it could have spread itself out quite a bit more.

    11. It was a pleasant Christmas story but. If you have no family, or if you are estranged from your family this book will leave you feeling bad.

    12. A sweet Christmas novella by an excellent writer. I rarely read Christmas stories outside of November and December. But this one was on hold in my library during those months. Very enjoyable.

    13. I didn’t realize this was an Amish book when I started it or I might not have started it. It was alright. Just ended way too abruptly.

    14. Melody Carlson is a well respected and highly acclaimed author of Christian/Inspirational fiction. She writes novels for women and teens and even books for young readers. Carlson has recently been releasing a Christmas novella each year. This year's novella is called, A Simple Christmas Wish. It is the story of a little girl and her aunt, who are touched by tragedy just before Christmas. Carlson once again shines in this short Christmas tale that brings the English and Amish worlds together. Car [...]

    18. In this Christmas novella, Rachel's brother and sister-in-law pass away, leaving behind their daughter, Holly. 19. A sweet Christmas novella! This is my first book by Melody Carlson and I really enjoyed it. This novella started out a little slow for me then it blew my mind! It turned in to a great story. It is a nice novella that looks into Amish mixing with English that no nothing about the Amish! :) And I was shocked by some of the scenes! I would have liked a glossary for the Amish translations, but I think I figured them out without one. Holly is a beautiful, lovable character as is her Aunt Rachel, and [...]

    20. This review is also available on my blog, Read Till Dawn.I realize I probably should have written this review before Christmas, considering it's a Christmas book and all, but I was pretty swamped with other reviews to write, not to mention all the presents to buy. I haven't forgotten it, though, and it still sits on my dresser waiting to be reviewed so I can move it to my "done" pile on the floor. So let's do this! This was a fun little read that took me about an hour, maybe an hour and a half. I [...]

    21. As a fan of Melody Carlson I am always excited to see what she comes up with next, and with "A Simple Christmas Wish" we get an Amish story that made for an interesting Christmas read. 35 year old Rachel Milligan is a bit jaded when it comes to Christmas, but caring for her almost seven year old niece Holly in Chicago while Holly's parents are on a trip has her pretending to be in the spirit for Holly. When news comes that Holly's parents were killed in a plane crash, Rachel is surprised to lear [...]

    22. Confession: I don't always like novellas, because they lack the depth I enjoy in a regular book. Characters are often two dimensional and plots are, well, just too obvious.Neither of these faults can be found in Melody Carlson's "A Simple Christmas Wish." I thought I could see where things were headed, but instead enjoyed a delightful short story. I only wish the deeper meaning of Christmas had been more evident in the final chapters.Rachel is suddenly faced with the loss of her only brother and [...]

    23. As with most Christmas fiction in the inspirational genre, this is a terrific story of hope and love that are especially prevalent during the holiday season. A quick read (I read it in under two hours) there isn't a whole lot of room for an in depth story, but this was far superior to some of the 500 pages novels I've read in the past. I didn't think I'd be shedding tears within the first few chapters, but I did. A Simple Christmas Wish pulls at the heartstrings so much so that I really became a [...]

    24. This was a sweet novella. Only 168 pages, it is a quick read. Rachel is a flight attendant and caring for her 7 year old niece, Holly while her brother and wife gone. Rachel and Holly get a Christmas tree, make some decorations because they can't find them, and decorate the tree. Rachel is worried her brother and sister - in - law are going to be upset that she jumped the gun and put up a Christmas tree. Holly informs her that her parents decorate the tree when she is asleep. That comment breaks [...]

    25. A very quick Christmas read. Only 168 pages, and easy read for an evening. This is both an English and Amish story. We find fate bringing Rachael Milligan, a world traveling flight attendant, wearing Amish attire. Huh? There is a lot that leads up to her spending time living with the Amish. The main reason is her seven year old niece Holly. We find Holly quite infatuated with all the newness of Amish life, like most children, their love the animals. Dogs, cats, horses, cows.a dream place. Can yo [...]

    26. Each holiday season I look forward to reading one of Melody Carlson's Christmas novellas. They're short enough to read in a single sitting - though I often times find myself putting them down just to savor the moment - and always capture the magic and joy of Christmas perfectly. This particular tale might be my favorite of Ms. Carlson's books (although, to be honest, I think I've said that about every single one so far!). It combines the much-beloved holiday setting with another of my favorite su [...]
