    1. First there is great research done on this essays. An in depth look into a side of America most don't read about. This book is a great addition to Hagans other books and a good starting point to start your own research. Very fascinating! Received this book for free through first reads

    2. I was unfamiliar with Helene E. Hagan's work before winning a copy of her essay collection, Fifty Years in America, in a giveaway. Nevertheless, I found the entire collection very accessible without any such familiarity -- or any particular knowledge of the subject areas explored in the in these works for that matter.
