    1. Beautifully done. If you have read The Survivors Book 1: Summer, and I recommend that you do, this is a wonderful companion to it. It fills us in on what happened with Mike before he met Sandy. We get a glimpse at both Sophie and Dog and more understanding as to what life was like below the station. Mike expresses his feeling of loneliness and need to be strong for the group and it brought even more understand as to why he helped and nurtures Sandy. Exactly what a novella should be. 2. This is a bitter-sweet story that adds some history to Michael's character, from Book I: Summer. It paints the relationship between Michael and Sophie beautifully, and gives insight to Michael's position as the 'lonely leader' and his deep longing for companionship.I enjoyed it very much. It is quite well written, and gives a great representative taste of this author's work to anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to read Ms. Dreyer yet.

    3. This a short novella that follows events that happened to Michael before we meet him in The Survivors: Summer. We see the details of Sophie's death and we get an insight into why Michael is the way he is and why he needs the companionship that Sandy will later give him. Sophie's death was so heartbreaking and it was beautifully written by Ms. Dreyer.

    4. We get to find out how Michael loss his niece in this short story. As a mother I always understood why he would feel responsible for her death. After reading this story I now better understand his want for family and a home even more. I just love this series!
