    1. The girl: Alexandra Valenceau. A bit too complicated to explain, so I'll let the blurb do the talking for me: "Orphaned by the French Revolution, Alexandra Valenceau dreams of the aristocratic life that might have been hers."The guy: Count Mikhail Pavlovitch Ogrinov spots the beauteous Alexandra at some swank soiree and thinks Alexandra is just the girl he needs to help him spy on Napoleon's cronies. He spiffs her up in a swank house, swank dresses and lessons in deportment and such. Seems easy [...]

    2. I am wavering between 3.5 and 4 stars for this book, but I am inclined to round up.The writing was just too good!Call me silly, but the reason why I bought this book was because of the beautiful hand of the male cover model. There is no reason to be ashamed to admit it, other readers grab every read with a naked chest on the cover!I saw that with over 500 pages this would be a rather lenghthy read, one I would not be able to read in one sitting, but the blurb sounded intriguing and I simply coul [...]

    3. I read this back when I was a teenager and it is one of three historical romances that stuck with me so many years later. The others areand .The Napoleonic era is vividly realised and I loved the heroine, although as other reviewers have said the hero, tormented comes across as a bit of a jerk, but so thoroughly Russian.I'd forgotten the name of the book but not its plot or the characters' names although it has been nearly 20 years since I last read it. So review is pretty much an aide-memoire.
