    2. I'd call this more of a sewing encyclopedia than a complete step-by-step book. Techniques are all organized in alpha order, and a brief description of each technique is accompanied by a few nice illustrations. Most of the techniques are garment construction related, but there are also a few pages about hand embroidery, hand stitching and the like. Great resource book for someone who often sews garments from patterns, but maybe a little bit above the "absolute beginner".
