    1. Rather than an encyclopedia, this is a chronology of 1400 gangland murders. This is basically raw data with passing analysis or discussion. Organized by decade, the book gives a brief overview of traditional organized crime for the decade, and then begins the list of murders. The book does provide some interesting glimpses into Chicago gangland that is not readily apparent in other books about the Chicago mob.
