    1. When I started Kaylen's Rising, I thought I’ll be reading a normal YA fantasy novel, with a teenager elf, some confrontations between good and evil that will influence the fate of the world and maybe some girls and relations issues. What I found was totally different from what I’ve expected. Remember that magical feeling you experienced when you entered a fantasy world - for example the one in Harry Potter? That’s exactly what you will get reading Kaylen's Rising. A compelling story, full [...]

    2. Disclosure: Received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.Kaylen's Uprising is a wonderful first novel geared towards the younger reader. Kaylen is a cave elf, living in the town of Caverna. He has never been outside of Caverna and has lived a very secluded life thanks to extreme pacifist parents who own a lovely flower shop. As Kaylen is finally granted his wish to be "normal" and go to school, albeit with a ton of restrictions from his parents, he l [...]

    3. "Kaylen Amdir has been living in the dark for fourteen years – in every sense. His people are hunted on the surface world, forcing them to fend for themselves in the underground chasms now known as the sprawling city of Caverna. His community despises and taunts his family for reasons that no-one shares. His parents keep him housebound, a prisoner in their backyard gardens, and forbid him from holding a sword or wielding a wand. But when his father and mother finally relent and send him to sch [...]

    4. Tomes of Taria: Kaylen's Risingby Yves RobichardKaylen has dreamed about magic and casting spells, but for some reason he can't fathom his parents won't let him learn. But this isn't the only thing that makes him stand out in the Cave Elf community of Caverna - his father was abnormally tall with l-o-n-g ears and his parents were the only ones who operated a flower/plant/seed/garden supply shop in the city. But when some children throw a fireball at Kaylen and destroy the flower bed he has been w [...]

    5. Kaylen's Rising (Tomes of Taria, Book 1)By Yves RobichaudI can easily give this book a solid 4 stars.Kaylen’s Rising is a welcome new addition that follows a young cave elf through a coming of age story, littered with action, adventure, suspense, and a pinch of romance. During the beginning of the book, I found myself in a similar world to R. A. Salvator’s legendary Drizzt, as the main character Kaylen is a cave elf that too has never seen the world beyond the humble beginnings of a cavern c [...]

    6. Tomes of Taria: Kaylen’s Rising by Yves RobichaudIn Yves Robichaud’s new release we meet Kaylen, a cave elf in the troubled subterranean land of Caverna.Though Kaylen has lived a content life with his parents, he sees other teens living a less-sheltered existence, and questions begin to nag. Why has he never gone to school? What exists beyond the sheltered world of his home?Kaylen’s story begins in a garden, and as often happens with gardens, discord enters. This event causes Kaylen to que [...]

    7. For fourteen years cave elf Kaylen led a quiet life of gardening and non-violence in the underground town of Caverna, completely unaware of the war that raged between his people and humans. Sheltered and coddled by his parents, Kaylen never even attended school. But things are about to change. When Kaylen’s request to go to school is finally granted, he gets more than he bargained for. Not only is he confronted with enemies he never knew he had, painful truths he’d never known, and the sad r [...]

    8. A Fast-Paced Tale That Forces Readers To Keep ReadingDon't let this average rating fool you. Kaylen's Rising is an excellent story. It is fast-paced and full of action. There is always something happening, forcing the reader to keep flipping the pages to see what happens next. What this book needs is a little more depth. The characters are a little flat and their relationships do not evolve much, save for a small few. There is a budding love story, but it goes no further than its inception. Futur [...]

    9. This is quite a story for lovers of fantasy and elves. They will surely enjoy the trip through its pages. I really enjoyed the trip myself. It conveys a new, completely refreshing twist to elf tales.Kaylen is fourteen and he has never been out of his yard. He knows not why, but his parents refuse to discuss it. When finally he is allowed to go to school, he discovers many mysteries surrounding his parents. The least of all is that he is limited to studying music, while all his schoolmates do wea [...]

    10. Fun book to read! Caverna is an interesting place to learn about, along with its elvish population.I also enjoyed reading about Kaylen's special kind of magic, which is a nice departure from the recent wand/wizardy variety we're become accustomed to seeing.Reading as an adult, I would have expected arguments and grudges to be a bit longer to overcome, but for the younger adult audience, being quick to forgive is a better life lesson.A few other subjects I'd have loved to explore more in depth - [...]

    11. I liked this book. It read fast--there are certainly scenes that could be dragged out and described more--but it was very entertaining. I loved the main character, Kaylen, because he has the least amount of skill and yet the widest range of ability to help everyone else. Isn't that the best kind of hero to have?

    12. One of my favorite books. I couldn't put it down and read it in a day! It's interesting to read about Kaylen discovering all about the world; I laughed a lot the first time that he saw snow! Overall a very good fantasy book.

    13. Once I picked up this book and started reading I did not want to put it down. It is an easy read and very entertaining. I am really looking forward to book 2

    14. I started off expecting Kaylen's Rising to be your usual young adult book about an elf the usual creatures that go along with this and of course the whole book would revolve around good versing evil probably there would be some romance thrown in there somewhere. However as i was reading this although it did meet some of these expectation it went about it in a whole new and unexpected way it certainly wasn't your usual YA fantasy novel. Robichaud managed to create a wonderful world that from the [...]

    15. Everything has to be just right when I begin reading a new book; location, temperature, comfortable clothing, cuppa tea, peace and quiet, and, most importantly… the first chapter.Tomes of Taria - Kaylen’s Rising by Yves Robichaud did not disappoint. From the very first page, I knew I would have to reign in my curious nature and take my time, so that I could savour each chapter.Yves’ debut fantasy novel captivated my mind, gloriously sending me into his wonderful world of cave elves, humans [...]

    16. I received an ebook copy of this novel from the author in return for an honest review. I gave this novel 4/5 and I really enjoyed it. The plot and characters in this novel were great, the author had developed them nicely. I will say that I think this is probably a middle grade novel, the writing and plotline would suit 10-14 year olds, but I enjoyed it none the less. The plot was fast paced and action filled, the characters were hardly finished one adventure when they were on to the next. This h [...]

    19. I was excited to learn that the author of this book was from where I live which is why I decided to read this book. I was even more excited to see that this was a fantasy book! Even better! As I was reading I got slowly more and more disappointed. The plot wasn’t bad. It was something new and fresh which made me really happy. It was the writing that I couldn’t get over. Just some things that the characters said were so stupid and way too formal. Realistically people don’t talk like that un [...]

    20. Kaylen's Rising is a solid 4/5 for it's intended audience (youth 10-14). While some parts, characters lacked a little development, all in all it was very interesting. Each chapter leads into the next, and leaves you wanting to continue reading to see what the next adventure will be. I must say the build up to the battle was very well done, however the battle itself was somewhat disappointing. The history and story of Kaylen's family was very well done and revealed throughout the book in a well l [...]

    21. Great building of skills and excitementCommon elements of character development combined with suitable action enlisting developed skills. Combatants requiring guile and skill add to the mix. Team alliance along with personal back storeys fill the narrative.

    22. Absolutely loved this book. It took me a while to finish it however when I read it i could barely put it down! I really hope there is another one!
