    1. Bring back that lovin' feelin''Cause it's gonegonegoneAnd I can't go on, woahSeriously this was my mental sound track as I read this storyI love the Righteous Brothers. I truly do but nearly 200 pages of the same song running through your brain over and overwell, let's me tell you it gets tedious after a whiletually it gets downright monotonous and dammit even my mental voice doesn't sing near as good as The Righteous BrothersLooking at current reviews for this book I'm not sure I shouldn't duck [...]

    2. 2.5 HeartsThe framework of this story is good; it's the fleshing out bits that I took issue with. I chose this book for obvious reasons and those reasons played only a bit part which, I admit, was disappointing, though not my primary quibble. The redundancy and spoon feeding of minutiae is what sapped my enjoyment. I will say if I'd read this book as little as two years ago I likely would've had a very different reaction, so bear that in mind.A Shot of J&B can be read as a stand alone, thoug [...]

    3. Romance 1st then Suspense, Thriller and a touch of BDSM. - THIS BOOK HAS People who are crazy and some moving toward insanity. People who are madly in love in it.A Devil Boy who know's how to dress---> Perfection! Exquisite writing.Fabulous Storytelling. A Romance that is first and formost. AndAbsolute Beauty within the art of shibari GoSh WHat A RIDe. I LoVed itBUt It is still more like 4-4.5 stars instead of 5.I could not picture Jackie all grown up. I wish I had read this as a standalone. [...]

    4. A Shot of J&B is the first book by Lou Sylvre that I've read. While I thought this story had potential, I didn't think it was really met. I'd still like to read the series that A Shot of J&B is spun from, just so I can get some background on the characters and where they come from. You don't need to read that series to follow this story, though. A Shot of J&B stands well enough, on its own.At the start of the book, Brian and Jackie live on different continents [...]

    5. I adore Luki and Sonny and I think maybe Brian and Jackie suffered through comparison. I was eager to read their story and they were a fascinating couple but there wasn't that instant love that I felt for Jackie's uncles. The story seemed quite slow-moving and sedate until very nearly the end when it exploded in to life. I don't know whether there will be more to come from Brian and Jackie but I do have a funny feeling that they could very easily grow on me.

    6. WARNING: if you haven't read at least up to book 3 in the Vasquez &James series, this review can be 'spoilerish. Also. This story takes place BEFORE events in 'Because of Jade'. Just to verify up front. This story with Brian and Jackie is 6 years after 'Finding Jackie' and events to do with Jade have NOT taken place yet.I love that this is going to be its own series, and as with all of Lou's stories, felt like I was wrapped up in a comfortable, handmade blanket that left me feeling warm, coz [...]

    7. 4.5 stars(view spoiler)[I really like this series, I thoroughly enjoy Lou Sylvre writing style, while everyone might not like the “lack of romance” I enjoy it. I think it’s enough romance because the amount of love the guys have for each other and their families shines bright on the page. I was so shocked to see this appear on the blog because I totally forgot about it coming out. I immediately emailed Mel, and was hoping I get it first and I did. I’m so ecstatic that I did. I loved ever [...]

    8. I’m already a fan of the universe Lou Sylvre has built with her Vasquez and James series so I was excited to learn that she is writing a spin off series featuring characters from that series—Jackie and Brian. I love series, and next generation spin offs. The title 'A Shot of J&B' works on a couple of levels. It’s not only Brian’s favourite drink, but is also their initials. As with all of Lou’s work, this was a very smooth and lyrical read. I got sucked into the story and invested i [...]

    9. I am sure I will come back and finish this just I need to step away now. No real spoilers here, the dialogue is killing me with its sugary goodness. So far the story is mostly working within the romance part with small snitches of some evil doer. Its not working for me. I think I'm going to go back and read Loving Luki Vasquez. I feel a disconnect and I can't figure out what/where/how its happening. No rating as I am not completely sure its not me here. Later that day.(view spoiler)[I tried agai [...]

    10. I think this suffered some for me simply because I haven't read any of the series that this was spun off from. The characters were interesting especially Jackie although I felt if I was missing some things about his past that were part of the past series. He was an interesting mix of independent and vulnerable. What I found lacking in the book was the connection between the characters. Brian was working all the time and honestly I didn't get him loving/not loving Jackie as a kid then picking it [...]

    11. Review can be read at It's About The Book4.5 starsAs a swooning fan of Lou Sylvre’s superb Vasquez & James series, I was very pleased to see her writing a story for Jackie and Brian. Readers first meet these characters in ‘Finding Jackie’, book three of the aforementioned series. ‘A Shot of J&B’ takes place about 6 years after events in ‘Finding Jackie’, but prior to events in ‘Because of Jade’ (the most recent V&J book). This book could be read as a stand-alone, bu [...]

    12. 4.5 star review by VickiOh I was so happy to see this pop up for release! I have enjoyed the Vasquez and James books and I was sad to see them end. I had hopped Jackie and Brian would get their own story, and here we have it!Brian and Jackie have appeared in previous books in the Vasquez and James series, Brian worked for Luki, Jackie is Luki’s nephew that had some serious issues. Brian helped rescue Jackie from a kidnapping, and bonded with the younger man, but knew the time was not right for [...]

Brian has never forgotten the young man who caught his attention several years before, and when he is visiting Luki and Sonny and runs into Jackie again Brian discovers that his feelings are just as strong but this time Jackie is old enough to pursue. But has Jackie [...]

    14. “One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do.” ~ Henry FordBrian Harrison quit his job at Vasquez Security and went to London because of his unsettling response to Jackie Vasquez, who was only sixteen at the time; but Brian never forgot Jackie. Six years later, Brian visits Jackie's uncle, Luki, where he also gets to see Jackie again. Brian is stunned at the difference between the boy he left and the grown ma [...]

    15. This an excellent story about the romance between Brian and Jackie, six years after the events in the book "Finding Jackie," the third in the Vasquez and James series. In essence, young Jackie was kidnapped and tortured, and Brian was a member of the team that rescued him. Six years later, they meet again and begin a tentative romance, one that is long distance and excruciatingly sensitive for a number of reasons. Jackie is working on his master's degree in forensic psychology on the west coast [...]

    16. ThreeandHalfStarsJackson Vasquez "Jackie" and Brian Harrison have known each other for a while. Despite their age difference there was an immediate attraction. With a past trauma in Jackie's life that Brian witnessed and with Brian fighting his feelings for the much younger Jackie, Brian leaves and finds himself living alone in London.Brian's job is one where he is to search out patterns in seemingly different assaults. Someone is scaring people almost to death.I enjoyed the mystery in this stor [...]

    17. Original review on Molly LollyFour stars!I loved seeing Jackie, Brian, Luki, Sonny, and all of the rest of the Vasquez clan in this book. Even if some of the characters are only there briefly. It was wonderful seeing Jackie grown and mostly healed. I truly enjoyed the scenes where Jackie submits to Brian and where they delve into some Shibari and rope bondage. So sexy! I kept trying to figure out who the bad guy was. I went back and forth a few times before the reveal on if my guesses were right [...]

    18. This is a spinoff of the popular Vasquez security series. A Shot of J&B takes up after book 3. You do not have to have read any of the previous books to enjoy this at all. I will say I am one of the few that hasn’t read the others ( but I will as soon as time permits… even more so now that I had a taste) If you don’t like spoilers and want to read the other books I think you should do so before reading this book. I, on the other hand,, love a bit of spoiler; it just makes me want the o [...]

    19. Brian is no Luki-likeI was really bummed that we didn't get to see Brian and Jackie at the club and back at home, after the last page! I really wanted more Shibari and sex. Aside from that, I was not as happy with this book as I was with Luki and Sonny's stories. I did like it, since this was a couple I looked forward to reading about. Jackie deserved to have good things happen after the past he had. There was the author's careful character and world building, since we didn't get too much of Jac [...]

    20. This is my first book by this author, and it started out so well. I little confusing with them jumping not just State to State but country to Country, but I started to over look that and get to the story which seemed promising. A teenager kidnapped, a young man tasked with finding the kid only to find out he’s the one that he crushed on and then stepped away from because of the age difference. Years later meet again, rekindle the feelings they both shared. And then the murder, mystery aspect a [...]

    21. I received a copy of A Shot of J&B by Lou Sylvre recently and wound up liking it so much more than I expected! It turns out that Jackie and Bryan are perfectly suited for each other. Jackie with his horrific past needs a strong man and Bryan is just the perfect mix of strong and caring to fit the bill. Bryan likewise needs someone just for him and Jackie is happy to oblige. Bryan finds his work for Scotland Yard consuming most of his time and rarely sees Jackie, even though he is in graduate [...]

    22. Jackie is such an amazing personality and character in this series, it is no wonder Brian is completely enthralled. Brian is a solid comforting presence for Jackie, whereas Jackie breathes life into a man much too young to be so set in his ways. I love the sincerity in their emotions, and how they lay everything bare for each other, with no fear of ridicule or recrimination. The bond they share is the perfect counterpart to the spine-tingling suspense laid out by an author who can definitely hol [...]

    23. I received it through a Love Bytes giveaway! This was such a good book. I loved the characters Jackie and Brian. The Dom is the best kind Loving, gentle, generous and pure of heart. As well as human enough to make mistakes. The mystery is so well thought out and frightening. I do question how the murder was able to go to another country and be undetected. Still trying to figure out the blood in the shack. I think I know where it's from but nothing is clearly stated. Both M/C's had wonderful suppor [...]

    24. I liked reading Brian and Jackie's story. But they were apart for so much of the book. And then it ended kind of abruptly. It was good, but not Luki and Sonny good.3.5 stars

    25. I always love getting lost in one of Lou's stories! Full review coming soon to The Novel Approach! thenovelapproachreviews

    26. WowI am so happy that Luki and sonnys story will go on through Jackie and Brian. I loved this book! A great mystery plus some hot love scenes with a little kink.
