    1. 4 Yummy Firefighter Stars"It's still a bad idea," he said, his voice low. "I agree." She stepped into the curve of his arm. "So after you kiss me, we should make another agreement about how we won't do it again."-Rick and JessicaWow it is so nice to read a sweet, low drama, light-hearted read. Lately some of the books I have read, have been big misses for me, and they gave me a horrible case of the Rants! I really needed a fun, easy going book. And I got that with Controlled Burn by Shannon Stac [...]

    2. Jessica Brussard has never met her paternal grandparents (they don't even know she exists) because of her father's estrangement with his family. When she learns there might be a medical emergency involving her grandfather and her own father is "unavailable," Jessica uses the opportunity to go meet them and handle things. Rick Gullotti is a Boston firefighter who stays in the upstairs apartment of the Brussard's home and helps them maintain the property. When Jessica shows up, they're both wary o [...]

    3. Controlled Burn is the second installment in Shannon Stacey's adult contemporary/fireman romance series titled: Boston Fire. I didn't love the first book and was uncertain about continuing the series but the opportunity presented itself to read Controlled Burn so I thought what the hell. I ended up really liking it! I loved the theme of bonding with extended family (which is one of Ms. Stacey's specialties in my opinion) and I admired the tribute she paid to loved ones of firefighters and the an [...]

    4. 2.5 It's not that I didn't like it it was just kinda meh.It was a nice, easy story. I skimmed a bit and, as usual, I thought it was a bit too long (longer than it should have been anyway). Frankly, if not for the ending, I would have given it 3 stars. But gah, the fact that I could guess (almost word for word actually) the last 10, 15 pages, made me rethink this book. On the other hand, it was a pretty easy, fast read. I can't say I felt the almost 400 pages it has. It was the perfect junk food [...]

    5. 3.5 starsI liked:The H/H : I loved everything about them. Their characters , how they got together and how they handled their situation. The grandparents: I always enjoy reading books featuring adoring grandparents. These two were 2 of the best. The humor and cuteness: I think I was either laughing or smiling the whole time I read this.I didn't like:Rick's age: How old is Rick? 40? 50? They kept calling him old but his exact age wasn't mentioned. This is one of my pet peeves. To relate to a chara [...]

    6. ARC Review: Heat Exchange, the latest book in the Boston Fire series, is a nice contemporary romance featuring a Boston fire fighter and a smart, savvy business woman from California. Jessica Broussard did not know she had grandparents. Her father has been alienated from his parents for many years and has refused to speak of them. By accident, Jessica picks up a phone call and it changes her life. Rick Gullotti is a seasoned fire fighter and confirmed bachelor. Recently, he has been wondering wh [...]

    7. 4 some like it firefighter hot stars. The novel is a finding family, finding your voice, and finding love story which translates into a feel good story. East Coast firefighter Rick and West Coast financial executive Jessica get a lesson in expecting the unexpected. The story is easy to like, easy to read, and even easier to finish. Jessica Broussard grew up without a mother and tales of her father's parents not being the "right kind" of people. When Jessica receives the message that her paternal [...]

    8. Nice but what's with the ending, feels like things were left in the middle of nowhere.Full review:I'm a fan of Ms Stacey's Kowalski family series - sweet, sexy romances with great side characters and family/friends atmosphere.I was excited to try her new series and while this book was nice, it didn't wowed me. I expected a lot more of the story and felt disappointed in the ending. This is a tender, somewhat tame love story of Rick, a firefighter in his late thirties who is already starting to thi [...]

    9. I just love firemen, probably because of the uniform ;-), which is why I really wanted to like this book, but the beginning and end just didn't work for me. I just didn't like Jessica in the beginning, she was too cold, too unfeeling to understand. But then by the middle of the book she changed for the better, and I liked how she was with her grandparents and with Rick, and I started to think and hope that things would continue to be great. Unfortunately she reverted back to her old self at the [...]

    10. This was a very sweet and well written story, the characters are nicely developed without any frustrating traits but1. The story is actually boring, nothing really happens that pulls you into their lives. We follow them page after page in the daily minutia of cell phones, cooking, eating, watching the news, etc. There is the long distance aspect of a relationship as she's from San Diego and he's from Boston, but it doesn't really create enough of an interesting story-line. It's a should we or sh [...]

    11. This was one of the most feel good romances I've read lately. I know that Shannon Stacey has a knack for giving me the warm fuzzies, but this was one of her sweetest. Our hero, Rick, is really one of the good guys. Besides being well built and a sexy-as-hell firefighter, he's also just such a darn nice man! He rents a room on the top floor of a sweet little old couple's house, and while he's there he does the hard chores, watches out for them, and basically fills in as a surrogate son. They are [...]

    12. *I received a free ARC of Controlled Burn from Carina Press via Netgalley in exchange of an honest and unbiased review*Both Jess and Rick were strong characters, with the odds stacked against them, thus making Controlled Burn both beautiful and a little melancholy. This and all my other reviews are originally posted on my blog(un)Conventional Bookviews

    13. Rick and Jessica's story a true Controlled Burn. With her living in on the West coast and him on the East coast you would think they were doomed. But with her traveling back and forth to her new found grandparents they made it work. Their romance was a slow simmer with some sweetness. I really liked there was a family aspect besides the romance in this one. Tatiana Sokolov is growing on me as a narrator.

    14. Stacey makes me want a firefighter of my own. I liked this book, but some of Jessica's issues with her dad and his family bothered me a little bit. Full review to come at thebookpushers

    15. Finally, I am out of my reading slump. I've read too many books of late that have had unnecessary drama and weak storylines and it was refreshing to pick up and read a low-drama, low-angst, romantic story with a couple who were completely endearing. I love me a fireman and Rick Gullotti was just what I needed. "Is licking a pole on your list of things to do whilst in Boston or what? The second book in Shannon Stacey's Boston Fire series focuses on Rick's blossoming relationship with his elderly l [...]

    16. Hotness Rating 3 out of 5I loved this book! Controlled Burn, the 2nd book of the Boston Fire series, by Shannon Stacey has me hooked. I mean who doesn't love a hot firefighter who in his spare time helps out his elderly neighbors? When Jessica Broussard shows up on her grandparents doorstep to "help" them out Rick is instantly suspicious. After all, Jessica is an adult woman who has never showed any interest in visiting her grandparents let alone help them. Rick Gullotti is a great character who [...]

    17. Loved it! Really enjoyed the slow and steady development of the relationship between the H/h. While immediately attracted no insta-love in these stories and I find that refreshing. Also refreshing is the low level of angst. They know the obstacles in front of them and have to decide if they can overcome them. Wow, kinda like life! Rick and Jessica are great together and I adored Joe and Marie, Jessica's grandparents. This author has such great characters in all her books. I highly recommend this [...]

    18. I'm likin this series so far my only complaint is the ending of this book like wtf I need answers lol the ending seemed rushed and idk shit

    19. I wasn't sure about Rick and Jessica at first. Jessica is a bit uptight but you realize that a lot of that comes from her dad. I disliked her dad because he was a major self centered asswipe. Rick has some interesting perspectives on women that he is just now challenging. I love that women view him as not the marrying type. It made me giggle so much! I really think that he's a guy that wants to be viewed as marriage material but he didn't really want to get married. Before meeting Jessica, he tho [...]

    20. Jessica's father gets a phone call from his estranged grandparent's doctor and doesn't want to even take the message. Jess decides to fly from San Diego to Boston to meet them and help with their finances. Once there she discovers that her father's description of her grandparents doesn't mesh with her experience of them. Jess meets Rick, a firefighter, who is her grandparent's tenant and is initially suspicious of his influence over them and he is suspicious of her motives. They get over this pr [...]

    21. As a lieutenant with the Boston Fire Department, Rick Gullotti is surrounded by his makeshift family of firefighters. Additionally, he has rented the third floor of Joe and Marie Broussard’s home for years, making him part of their family, especially since their only child, Davey, left in his early twenties and never returned, cutting Joe and Marie out of his life. So when Joe takes a fall, Rick rushes to the hospital to help out, knowing that the phone call to Davey will do no good.Jessica Br [...]

    22. This author always seems to provide all the things I love in a good romance family saga. What I like most is she seems to include the township into the conflict adding to the comedy and the pain that keeps this saga moving. What is heart breaking about this story is Jessica Broussard is in her mid-thirties and has never been married. That’s not the sad part. The sad part is she has never really had a mother’s love or her dad’s for that matter. You see her mother ran out on them when she wa [...]

    23. This is the second story in the Boston Fire series (all standalone) and is about Rick, the guy whom no-one thinks will ever settle down with one woman, and Jessica. Jessica is the heretofore unknown granddaughter of Rick's landlord's Marie and Joe, who makes a trip to Boston to meet them when she handles a message for their estranged son (her dad) about a medical problem. Her dad is still on their contact list even though he's had no interaction with them in years, and Jess decides that she want [...]

    24. My Review:This book is a sweet, easy, entertaining read with a very light romance. There's no heavy angst with this onejust pure romance featuring one very hot firefighter and one slightly uptight financial advisor. The romance was fairly easy and happy and I enjoyed the chemistry between Rick and Jessica. But it felt like the meat of the story fell within Jessica's family. She's in Boston (although she lives in San Diego) to meet and take care of a situation with her grandparents. The thing isi [...]

    25. Good news: "Controlled Burn" worked a lot better for me than the first book in this series. I found the characters more relatable and interesting, and the conflict more compelling.Jessica Broussard comes to Boston to help the grandparents she's never met as they decide whether or not to sell their home and move into a senior apartment complex. Jessica is a financial advisor at her father's company in San Diego, and her entire life she's heard from him that her grandparents, Joe and Marie, are te [...]

    26. **You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: bookbriefs**Controlled Burn is the second book in the Boston Fire series by Shannon Stacey. Each of the books can be read as a standalone, and I have to admit that I had no idea this was book 2 in a series, until I pulled it up on to write this review. (That should tell you that it really can be read a true standalone.) Now I am very curious to check out who book one is about, and get my hands on a copy of that as well. Controlled Burn is [...]

    27. 3,75 starsCONTROLLED BURN started out a bit slowburn-ish in the romance front as it took up to the 60% mark to get a bit of sexy action other than 2 quick kisses. But I didn't really mind as sometimes that's a nice and refreshing break from the dirty sexy books I have been reading and those next on my reading list. Also, and more importantly, it fit this book and didn't turn in into an insta-love romance. I don't mind insta-love but sometimes that just doesn't fit the story and I'm glad this aut [...]

    28. Jess is minding her own business, filling in for his dad at work, when she receives a call she never once imagined she'd get. To her surprise, it turns out she has grandparents. Grandparents she never knew she had.She doesn't waste any time in packing up her stuff, and flying from San Diego to Boston. She doesn't know how she'll introduce herself to her grandparents because she's positive they don't even know she exists. She's prepared for everything except love and care. When she meets her grand [...]

    29. Loved itOver the past year or so I’ve just about given up on all romances, because nothing ever happens, just pages and pages of nothing, so I’ve been reading murder mysteries, spy stories, stalker stories, serial killer stories, those kinds of books, books with some meat to them. But I thought I’d try this one since it was about firemen so there was bound be some excitement. And there was, plus a nice love story. This was about a worthless father (as far as I’m concerned) who was embarra [...]

    30. 3.75This is the second book of the Boston Fore series and it's finally time for Rick!!Rick is a firefighter and although he is looking for something special he hasn't found her yet. When Jessica shows up at his door is he is seriously attracted to her but he has to decide if he can trust her. Jessica grew up in California with her dad and goes to Boston to meet the grandparents she hasn't met. Even though she is attracted to Rick she knows nothing can really happen between them but after a few k [...]
