    1. I fell in love with the Kansas Crossroads series only a few pages into the first book. The characters are surprisingly well-rounded considering how short the books are and I find them all genuinely likeable. I've recently read some fiction and non-fiction about the Harvey House and Harvey Girls, I was struck right away by the similarities to the fictional hotel and restaurant, The Brody Hotel. The author did confirm that she based them on the Harvey House and Girls and it added an interesting la [...]

    2. Reviewed at Historically RomanticI was quickly drawn into the dream behind A New Beginning. Where most people saw a run down dilapidated old mansion Adam saw a hotel that could offer meals and rooms to the masses of people who would be heading West… on the railroad right near by. With Adam’s enthusiasm and his Aunt Caroline’s more practical approach it was impossible to not get caught up in this dream of Adam’s.Elizabeth is also looking for a new start. A recent widow with a young baby, [...]

    3. When Adam Brody suffers some mishaps in life he decides to start fresh with his inheritance with his faithful Aunt Caroline by his side. She is a stable support in his life after he lost his parents and his wife. Adam decides to buy an old mansion and turn it into a hotel with restaurant. He sees so much potential being near the railroad. It gives him hope for his future. Elizabeth Caldwell has lost her husband to violence and is left caring for her mother and infant daughter Rose. When circumst [...]

    4. A New Beginning is a well written story with well developed characters. A hotel by the rail line in Topeka back in frontier days is a great location. These are still frontier days with the railroads pushing people further west. This is a romance story during the time the hotel is getting ready to open. I enjoyed the story, but being honest, not sure if I will read any further in the series. We shall see.

    5. You have got to love KansasI really enjoyed this book! I enjoy historical and books about Kansas! This book fits for me! There is excitement and love and guns shooting too!

    6. Excellent writing!I really enjoyed the plot - though it had me in suspense several times. I love reading Carolyn Aarsen’s books!

    7. Great storyI enjoyed the authors story telling, the adventures of the characters in the stories of the men and women of the mail order brides program was amazing.

    8. I really enjoyed this book. It has so many exciting twists and it kept me captive and ready for the next book.

    9. A sweet storyThis was a really sweet western romance. I loved how someone with such a hard life was able to make a turnaround for a great ending. Sweet, clean romance.

    10. This book really got under my skin. The writing is flawless, elegant and just plain lovely. Ms Adam's captured my attention with the opening sentence and, from there on in, I was hooked.Ms Adam’s has brought 19th Century Kansas back to life — she has done her research. I can honestly say that reading this book was like a symphony to the senses. I could feel the heat of the sun. See the dust on the road and almost taste Agatha’s cake (I so want the recipe). This book was all-consuming and c [...]

    11. EXCELLENT for Amelia Adams' First BookThis is the first book for Amelia Adams and it's one of those books you NEVER want to put down! Amelia's writing style is above reproach and very creative. It holds your attention and does not bore you. I didn't want to put my Kindle down while reading this book. The hero and heroine are so well suited for one another, and Adam Brody (the hero) is the perfect man that every woman would want n her life but his kind are few and far between. The heroine, Elizabe [...]

    12. A Widow finds new loveI met these characters 15 years later in Benedict's Bargain Bride. In that story, Lillian wonders about why Rose is 15 1/2, but Adam and Elizabeth have been married for 15 years. I had to go back and read their story. Elizabeth is a young widow with an infant and a frail mother. Honest paying jobs are few. Adam Brody is a man with a dream to convert a rundown mansion into a railroad hotel. Good help is hard to find. To add a little adventure, Elizabeth is taunted by a coupl [...]

    13. Enjoyable!I just discovered this author and I really enjoyed the first book in her ongoing series. It's well written, with plenty of details about life in Kansas in 1875 and has very likable characters including Wyatt Earp, who makes a cameo appearance. Adam Brody and his aunt Caroline have purchased a large and wealthy abandoned private home and plan to turn it into a restaurant and hotel and this first book introduces us to the employees he hires who will star in future storylines. Reading Ada [...]

    14. 2 1/2 stars. A new hotel owner, a widow with a baby have come to the same town to build their life and they connect and fall in love fairly easily. Very clean, sweet story. It was a cute story to read to pass the time. Nothing really stood out to me as great about this book. Everything happened like I knew it would and it just didn't have the spark, but it was well written, clean and had a nice story line. It just didn't pull me in but I did want to finish it and didn't dislike any part of it.

    15. I enjoyed the setting, characters and story line for almost the first 2/3 of the story. Then the writers inexperience took center stage as she rushed through the characters developing meaningful & believable relationships. I caught myself rolling my eyes thinking 'really? At least develop the story enough so it's believable.' Everything felt rushed an impractical, like she was in too big of a hurry to complete the project rather than take the extra hundred pages to develop the characters pro [...]

    16. Light readThis was an entertaining and easy read. If you enjoy a simple straight forward romance, you will probably enjoy this book. When a young widow needs to find work to support her baby and mother, she is thrilled to find a job at a local hotel that's just getting started in frontier Topeka, Kansas. The fact that the owner is young, good looking, and has lost his fiancé doesn't escape her notice. I'm happy to see there is a sequel.

    17. It was a nice sweet romance. I appreciate a clean read like this that I can recommend to my loved ones. The reason I rated it only three-stars is because I felt something was lacking--some depth, perhaps? It was too simplified and everything just fell into place too perfectly and too quickly. It's a great start to a story

    18. Ms. Adams writes an enjoyable book about a widowed mother trying to provide for her child. There's not much for women, so Elizabeth Caldwell takes a job as a housekeeper in Mr. Brody's new hotel. This book is a sweet story of survival, hope, and life in the old west when times were very different. I look forward to future books from this author. Bravo!

    19. A new beginningThis book was interesting and kept my attention all the way through, pretty fast read actually. Slow and steady writing though, I did not find myself overly invested in the characters or what would happen to them. Nothing to exciting really happened. Note: I received this free on the kindle app.

    20. Wonderful start to the series! If this is her debut book I can't wait to read the rest. The story was wonderful, sweet an easy ready that was written without being rushed and had all the aspects of a great book.

    21. Sweet ReadDelightful read with believable characters. Elizabeth dealt with issues which in her time proved difficult, leading to her needing to juggle different aspects of her life in order for her to take care of her family. A clean romance.

    22. A New LifeThank you for this heartwarming story of Elizabeth and Adam. I loved the storyline and all the characters. I found it fast-moving and I enjoyed reading about the courageous young women during the 1800s. I look forward to reading more of your work.
