    1. Here’s a thing you have to know about me to understand my adoration for Danielle E. Shipley’s Wilderhark Tales series: I grew up to walls and walls of fairy tale books. My mother had the most peculiar and most famous fairy tales alike all in one massive bookshelf, and as a child, it was like a towering wall of wonders and magic to little old me. Now, here’s the thing about Shipley as a writer that you need to know: her stories are re-imaginings of fairy tales a la Brothers Grimm, but what [...]

    2. The Swan Prince is a fairytale, in the length of a novella, that follows Sula and Sigmund on an adventure to break a curse they’re both under. An unlikely companion joins them as they are both on their way to break the curses they’ve been put under by witches.Sigmund is cursed to turn into a swan at night, while Sula is being chased by a bear. Of course, as with all fairytales the story is never quite what you expect, and Ms. Shipley definitely had me guessing about the truth behind these cu [...]

    3. Clever, funny, repeatedly surprising -- this is my kind of fairytale. There's a sensible heroine who does what needs doing, a mysterious boy with a vexing problem, and a doctor who can't stop until he's figured it all out. It reminds me of some of my favorite stories: the Dealing with Dragons books, the movie Brave, and the show Once Upon a Time. I didn't realize that this was a "Book 1" until I finished reading, and now I'm clamoring for Book 2!Edit: Upon a second reading, I have to say -- fore [...]

    4. Can I put ten stars? Please? Oh my gooooooooosh the twist at the end--the numerous twists--aaagh! More, give me more! --- Full review can be found at Flame Writer flamecycle/2013/0*Deep sigh of content*I loved it. The writing, the pacing, the characters, the plot, all of it—it’s superb. I kept trying to put the book away but found myself incapable. I’d be able to stop for maybe a few minutes, but then I’d keep going. There was perhaps but one thing in the entire book that didn’t satisfy [...]

    5. No SpoilersWow, this was a wonderful read! My only real complaint was that it was so short! I enjoyed the lyrical language that Shipley used in the book. It was very fairytale-esque which I think fit the story perfectly and sets the mood. I do like the idea of enchanted royalty but wished that there had been a little more background as to why they were enchanted. Especially at the end, there was no explanation but I suppose it didn't need to be tied up. Still it was a fairly satisfying ending al [...]

    6. "You hear about it all the time: Queens going mad with jealousy and having banished or killed anyone and everyone whom they perceived to be prettier than them; kings not being able to touch anything without turning it into solid gold - which sounds all very well, until you stop to look at it from a practical point of view; princes and princesses who seem to disappear right into thin air"This is a very cute little story. It reads a lot like a fairytale. This is both a good thing andhonestly, not [...]

    7. "The Swan Prince (Book One of the Winderhark Tales)" by Danielle E. Shipley is a fairytale as endearing as the originals, but with twice as much humor. This quick paced, fast read will both keep you guessing, and smiling.

    8. 4.5 starsWhat a delightful novella! Danielle Shipley did a fantastic job with this wonderful fairy tale story. I loved the little twists in the plot, some I saw coming, some I did not. It was incredibly enjoyable and I think anyone who is a fan of fairy tale-type books & stories will love it!

    9. It was a fun quick read… which took an interesting look at those characters in fairy tales trying to break a curse… the main problem was the writing style, which made me think of those movies that has an old narrator parting with his piece of wisdom as he weaves a tale of magic… it was almost lyrical and truly captured the image of a fairy tale… but the problem with this style having to continue for a whole book is that at times the sentences became awkward… halting the natural flow… [...]

    10. You’re probably thinking that this book's blurb sounds pretty awful. If so, I would agree. Thankfully, the book itself is decidedly better, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is after a nice quick read. The Swan Prince follows the tales of two cursed royals, Sula and Sigmund, as they strive to break the enchantments that have befallen them. Sigmund needs someone to treat him like a prince for the duration of a long journey, whereas Sula requires the kiss of her true love before a y [...]
