    2. Peerless. If Stan Tekiela has done a guide for your region: get it. Birds are classified by their primary color, so you don't need to be an ornithologist, or miss actual bird-watching time fumbling through multiple sections. I only wish he did larger guides as well as these handy pocket sized ones.

    3. I find this a very well-organized book divided into sections according to the birds' dominant color. Male and female birds with different colorings and patterns are given their own separate pages cross-referenced with one another.
