    1. One of my all time favorites. The hero has gone off to war and returns home to find that his fiance has had a child by another man. He remains in the betrothal for honor's sake while devestated and despising the heroine. But he cannot help falling in love with her again. Meanwhile danger lurks on all sides as they and all their friends deal with the fallout of the Jacobite rebellion in 1745.This is very well written and your heart will break for both the hero and the heroine and the little boy. 2. A good prequel to The Jeweled Men series. In the beginning I didn't see much of a connection because Owen Furlong was the only person in common with the series, and he didn't have a big part. I was a little confused how this book really tied into the series. By the end the connection was clear, and it's not just Owen, but something more. Very enjoyable.

    3. Veryan knew how to write. Complex plots, lots of interesting characters, no superfluous sex. These are true historical novels, but with the guarantee of romance and a happy ending.

    4. This one has more angst than a typical novel by this author. A giant misunderstanding between the two principals, leads to a lot of heartbreak and pain. The hero, Kit, is really mean to the heroine. Luckily this is resolved a good bit before the end of the book. As always, there are a lot of humorous scenes interspersed throughout the sadness and near-disasters and dangers. I read this book long ago, and couldn't remember exactly what Leonie was hiding from Kit, and I admit that when the full se [...]

    5. Nov 2015My favorite of Veryan's many books held up very well in this recent re-read. This tale of star-crossed lovers is wildly melodramatic--full of misunderstandings, danger, despair, and slapstick comedy! And I loved every minute of it.

    6. This is an entertaining preview of a favorite series. Some harrowing moments, some misconceptions, pride, honor, and love abound. The suit of armor, Leaf, and the pancake are quite entertaining additions to the story. Hooray for interlibrary loans so we can revisit these old friends!

    7. Patricia Veryan, especially in her early works, has the ability to craft both incredibly touching and romantic scenes with funny, utterly ridiculous scenes. This particular story has a deep fund of both, I highly recommend it!
