  1. I got a headache after reading this book. Don't get me wrong. It is a classic, I am sure. But I think the translation I read must be badly marred. I struggled to keep up with the 100s of characters all named Ammi, Ammachi, Pillais and so on. I never do well with a book that has too many characters who just float around.
