    1. Stolen Girls was a great read. Short, informative, and not too detailed to make you want to put it down. To clarify, the women and girls that were interviewed for the book were not the school girls kidnapped from Chibok. I’m glad the book shared that, because based on what the news was reporting, the main concern were the schoolgirls that were kidnapped. No one was mentioning the other women and girls in surrounding villages that were being taken by Boko Haram. What I liked most about the book [...]

    2. A surprisingly excellent choice for a summer vacation read. Fast-moving and not at all as depressing as it could have been, despite the almost impossibly harsh subject matter The author of the original German, and the translator who made this version available (no, he's not *that* Eric Trump - I checked!) somehow made this land, its history, and most dramatically, these women, accessible to an American reader. Being able to point out Nigeria on a map, describe a bit of its terrain, its religions [...]

    3. This did a very good job of explaining the details surrounding the stolen women and girls of Boko Haram. I had to mentally prepare myself every time I opened this book, because between the mixture of a succinct writing style, devastating facts, and beautiful pictures, it was all just so harrowing. I really recommend this book for anyone who might be interested in learning more about Boko Haram or anyone who is interested in women's/human rights. It also includes one of the best maps I've seen on [...]

Prawie wszystk [...]

    5. You really have to read this, to know whats happening in this cruel world in places that are so far away from our reality.

    6. Powerful interviews illustrating heartbreaking conflict in an area the west chooses to keep out of its conscience. I also would have appreciated if the author thought of policy solutions, although it is abundantly clear that it's far easier said than done. Foreign aid goes primarily to corruption, jet/drone strikes don't discriminate their targets, etc. Some of the quotes are so, so graphic and depressing but this is almost subtle because of how regular it is for these women. The book, though, c [...]

    8. In April of 2014, 276 young girls were abducted from a boarding school in Nigeria. They were taken by the militant Islamic sect Boko Haram. They are thought to be one of the most violent extremist organizations. In July of 2015 & early 2016, the author, an award winning journalist, spends time with more of the 60 girls who escaped. They talk about themselves, the days before their captivity & their days while being held. Also included in the book are stunning photographs of some of the g [...]

    9. Although this is a small book (147 pages), it was not a quick read for me. Sometimes I could only read a few pages and stopped. I was tempted to not finish the book many times but it kept calling to me to finish and I am glad I did. Like many people I read the news reports when these girls were kidnapped by until then an almost unheard of militant group called Boko Haram. When it happened, I couldn't imagine how it could have happened. Now I know how it happened and what happened to these girls. [...]

    10. You truly don't know what you don't know. "Stolen Girls" was full of technical and political information helpful to learning more about Boko Haram, and its destructive impact on Nigerian society. This book is necessary reading, but its disturbing and often horrifying stories of death, loss and fear make it difficult to get through. However, Bauer's interviews reveal the unassuming, authentic strength of these women and men as they face obstacles even after their escape. The interviewed had the c [...]

    11. Earlier this year I also read his book ‘Crossing the Sea: With Syrians on the Exodus to Europe’ and It is hard for me to believe the truth of these books because I am so disconnected from the horrors these people face. How can I give this book anything other than 5 stars when I am tucked safely away in my house and will never have to experience any of the horrors/fears these women in ‘Stolen Girls’ face on a daily basis. Parts of it I felt were biased to his opinions, I thought Wolfgang [...]

    13. Incredibly powerful read. Very tastefully and not sensationally written, allowing the survivors to tell their stories in their own way. It's heartening to read how they escaped and coped. The monologues are interspersed with informational sections about Boko Haram and their radical, violent twisted brand of Islam. I would highly recommend this quick read to everyone.

    14. A very easy and informative read on the way Boko Haram developed over the years and operates. Although the center of the book are stories of women survivors, they are the means to depict the Boko Haram terror as a whole, with it’s implications at all levels. The author does a great job at protecting their dignity while walking us through the traumatic experience of being kidnapped by fighters.

    16. I think I should have read this one in hardcopy. The narrator felt flat? Many of the stories were the stuff of nightmares, but they were delivered with no feeling or emotion. I couldn't connect.

    17. A heartbreaking read about several of the girls and women that were kidnapped in Nigeria. Very emotional and I wasn't able to put it down until the end.
