    1. This is Lucette Nel's first book and it is a wonderful freshman effort. A pregnant widow with two children trapped in a snowbound cabin, a sheriff looking for an old miner, whose horse strands him in that same cabin. Good makings for a story. Ms. Nel's characters are well developed, as is her story. She has talent and I'm looking forward to reading her next effort. I thoroughly enjoyed this.*I was given a preview copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

    2. First page to last, this story is a wonderful, exhilarating, fast and furious ride…I loved it! Sheriff Jonah—brave, kind and considerate, handsome and sometimes downright huggable—is the picture-perfect hero. Adeline and her adorable kiddies grab the heartstrings right from the get-go, despite their less-than-welcoming first-time encounter with the hunky lawman. Throw in a snowed-in cabin, a baby in a hurry to be born, and a bad guy with a gun and a mean streak, and…well, what’s not to [...]

    3. This book was the perfect way to start the holiday season! Nel's writing is stellar, with vivid descriptions and word choices that are perfect for the historical setting. The romance is gradual and sweet, and I loved Jonah's protectiveness of Adeline and her children as he starts to care about their family. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters as their pasts are revealed, and the kids added some very cute interactions. The blossoming romance and hints of danger kept me turning pages - [...]

    4. Interesting characters, a clever use of wit, and a story line loaded with possibilitieswhich does not disappoint! Completely loved this story.

    5. This is Lucette Nel’s debut novel so I had no idea what I would be in store for. As an avid reader of historical fiction, I knew that this would be something I’d enjoy. If you’re looking for a story that is fluffy, light, contains adorable swoon-worthy romance, with a little bit of action and suspense mixed in between, then this is for you. I originally was only going to read a chapter or two when I first started reading, except next thing I knew I devoured the whole book.Mrs. Nel has well [...]

    6. Lucette Nel’s debut novella shows off her talent for gathering interesting and likeable characters. The two children are endearing. The two main characters express their faith in God who has shown them protection. His help in their times of trouble.Adeline, a recent widow, moves through Nel’s romance story with heartache and a mystery that is revealed little by little. Sheriff Jonah Hale, at first a complete stranger, is treated like a criminal when he arrives at a cabin in a blinding snowsto [...]

    7. To me, this sweet Christmas novella is reminiscent of the works of Margaret Brownley. Good writing is as important to me as a good story. Lucette Nel has captured both. My only complaint—I wish it had been longer. I look forward to seeing what this author has to offer in the future. I was provided with this preview copy, but as always, my opinions are my own.

    8. You know that moment when it's freezing outside and there's nothing better than snuggling up in the blankets with a nice cup of hot chocolate? Well, this book was my hot chocolate. So sweet and warming. I enjoyed every minute of it! From the start, the story grips you and does not let up or disappoint. Unlike a few typical romances I've read, we dive head-first into the action with Adeline Spencer on the run with her two kiddos. Hiding out in a cabin, Adeline has no choice but to take hostage an [...]

    9. “The Widow’s Captive” is a sweet, Christmas novella that is an excellent choice to read while snuggled up in your favorite reading spot. I was intrigued by the book once I read the synopsis and couldn’t wait to read it. The story gave me a few chuckles and filled my heart with warmth. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a clean, sweet Christian novella. The author supplied me a copy of their work but I voluntarily post my review.

    10. Here you have a good sheriff doing a good deed for the holidays. He meets up with a family that feels unsafe and she protects her children. So things start happening. A lovely Christmas story. And I loved the story so much.

    11. Lucette Nel has written a heartwarming and entertaining story. It's a wonderful book, especially if you're looking for a short escape from reality. The story didn't drag out and kept me turning the pages. This book is a wonderful reminder that sometimes love doesn't find you when you deem it's time. Love finds you when you need it the most.
