    1. Great book that showcases the imaginations of kids. And the care that teachers give their students to ensuring their needs are met, whether the child knows it or not.

    2. Following the same structure of student favorites, I Didn't Do My Homework Because & What Happened on the Way to School, this pair again creates a laugh out loud circular story with engaging illustrations. Thus one's surprise ending left me smiling. One of my favorite writing assignments for my middle schoolers was to make their own versions of these type of ridiculous excuse circular stories.

    3. When his teacher asks the typical question about summer vacation, a dark-haired white boy spins an outlandish tale involving a treasure map, a hot-air balloon and mischievous magpie. I love the way that the teacher never criticizes him for his imagination and storytelling--the ending made me laugh out loud!

    4. I didn't even know this was coming out (July 5th!) but was eager to read it since I loved the other two books in the series. Super silly answer to "What did you this summer?" Fans of Remy Charlip's Fortunately will enjoy the sense of humor. I love Benjamin Chaud's illustrations!

    5. This is a good read aloud for the beginning of the school year. A way to get students to open up in their new classroom and with a new teacher. It's great for class discussion and as a introduction to a writing prompt.

    6. So fun - love the twist. My favorite part though has to be the dog in the illustrations. Definitely take time to study each page - such detail!

    7. This is a hilarious picture book and quick read, 10 minutes. It's a take on that beginning of school year routine: what did you do over the summer? This kid has an imagination . He tells the teacher about his adventures after he found a treasure map in a bottle at the beach. It's a great cause and effect book with great illustrations. Good twist at the end will tickle a teacher's funny bone.So the book sparked my teacher brain with a simple writing activity. What if, after reading this book, and [...]

    8. Hmmn. This is a beautifully illustrated small book with a sentence per page, but it is not a classic early reader in that the vocabulary is often challenging. A boy asked about his summer recounts a fantastic adventure - he chased all over the world a treasure map snatched by a magpie from his grasp. Those familiar with Chaud's large format picture books featuring bear will appreciate the details and whimsy. I found the story profound, with a reveal at the end that should spark conversation and [...]

    9. Themes: Adventure/Summer vacation/Treasure map/TravelingThis is too long for storytime."X Marks the spot! Or does it? It's a first-day-of-school moment of truth: What really happened over the summer break? A curious teacher wants to know! The epic explanation: What started out as a day at the beach turned into a globe-spanning treasure hunt with high-flying hijinks, an outrageous cast of characters, and one mischievous bird! At least, that's what the student says. Is this yet another tall tale, [...]

    10. What really happened over the summer break? A curious teacher wants to know. The epic explanation? What started out as a day at the beach turned into a globe-spanning treasure hunt with high-flying hijinks, exotic detours, an outrageous cast of characters, and one very mischievous bird! Is this yet another tall tale, or is the truth just waiting to be revealed? This is a fantastical fast-paced, detail-rich illustrated summer adventure that's so unbelievable, it just might be true!NotesDavide Cal [...]

    11. A student tells his teacher about what happened during his vacation, which gets progressively wilder and less credible as it progresses. Can the teacher possibly believe him?Great, vivid illustration and funny, creative story. Love the ending.

    12. Great for back to school time! Beautiful detailed illustrations. I think this could be a hit with my upper elementary students. Kids can write or illustrate their own imaginative version of what they did over the summer.

    13. A fantastic, high flying adventure with a great ending! I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t love it. A must read.

    14. We discussed how using something from your own experience can be morphed into a fun and crazy story when you add a few parts imagination to the equation.

    15. Love this kid's adventure/imagination. Great little twist at the end. I will definitely be reading this to small groups

    16. See oli veel vahvam kui eelmine - lisaks on siin minu lemmikpilt. Kaheksajalg ja allveelaev. Ja allveelaev.

    17. Tomuttelen vähän pölyjä kahdenkymmenen vuoden takaisesta italian kielestä, joka tuntuu nukkuvan ruususmaisesti Jospa tästä vähitellen jotain palautuisi mieleen :).

    18. I love children's books that catch me by surprise at the end. When I catch my breath, all the warm fuzzies from head to toe.

    19. When a teacher asks a little boy what he did over the summer, he spins an elaborate tale that starts with him finding a treasure map in a bottle at the beach and gets ever more outrageous as he goes along. Before his story ends he tells of adventures that take him around the world and back. He concludes by saying his summer was “OK,” and he expects his teacher doesn’t believe him. But then there’s a twist! The Truth About My Unbelievable Summer by Davide Cali and Benjamin Chaud is a cute [...]

    20. Summary:This story is about a boy who tells his teacher about his summer vacation. In the story he tells of this adventure he goes on because he finds a map in a bottle on the beach that leads to treasure. Throughout his adventure his map gets stolen by a bird and he travels the whole world. At the end of the story he finds the treasure and he discovers it is snorkeling gear and explores the ocean. Throughout this story, it is paired with charming illustrations that show little twists that happe [...]

    21. This follow-up to “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School . . .” and “I Didn’t Do My Homework Because . . .” contains similarly imaginative storytelling and vibrantly creative illustrations. Like the first two books, this stand-alone installment ultimately vindicates the young protagonist when the truth is revealed: he not only isn’t lying about his unbelievable summer, but his TEACHER is the one who set up the elaborate adventure! Parents will appreciate nods to classic adventu [...]

    22. The young student is back once more, telling his teacher what happened. Trouble is the teachers can never be quite sure this student is telling the truth. He has already lost his homework to two dogs: one that ate his homework and the other that ate the first dog. And he was late to school because a huge ape mistook the school bus for a banana, leaving him without a ride. Now, this young boy returns to school from a summer break, faced with a classic assignment: What did I do on my summer vacati [...]

    23. This compact-sized picture book is about a boy and his dog who get carried away on a delightful and fantastic summer escapade. Like any good picture book, a mere two lines of text on each page is enough to tell an engaging and exciting story. And, in this case, there is even a twist at the end! Also, like any good picture book, the illustrations are clever, creative, imaginative, and actually tell part of the story. So many things are happening in the pictures that are never mentioned in the tex [...]

    24. Building on the previous successes of this creative partnership responsible for I Didn't Do My Homework Because and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School, this book follows the same pattern used in those books. As they often do, a curious teacher asks her student how he spent his summer. He tells an incredible story about finding a message in a bottle only to have a magpie swipe it from his hands. Naturally, he follows the bird, which leads him to all sorts of crazy adventures and destinat [...]

    26. This is a book about a boy telling his teacher about his unbelievable summer and where all it took him. He knew it sounded crazy but it was all true! He explained all the crazy things that happened and at the end of the book you see who really caused the unbelievable summer to take place.I thought this was a really cute book. I would have it in my library as a fun read for the kids. It is a cool book to show imagination. I also thought the illustration were really cute and creative. All the litt [...]
