  1. I shed tears over this book, and many of them were tears of anger over what the children in it were forced to endure. It is an honest and calmly understated account of the author's childhood in the mission. There are the other girls with all the heart, inquisitiveness, mischief and even gluttony that I think characterises most childhoods. There are the nuns, brothers and priest who are incredibly harsh and also violent but as the book progresses the very wise and humble narrator is able to show [...]
