    1. In 1968 Ballantine Books issued Ballantine’s Illustrated History of World War II and “upgraded” it to Ballantine’s Illustrated History of the Violent Century in 1970. This is a series of 154 books of 160 pages each, with many (most pages have one or two) photographs of admittedly varying quality.
